Japanese manufacturers have clearly decided that the floppy disk camera, which can store up to 50 snaps on a 2 floppy disk for viewing on TV set – they can be printed out too if an appropriate colour printer is attached – is just a stop-gap to the real solution – the integrated circuit card camera: Toshiba Corp and Fuji Photo Film Co have agreed to pool their resources to develop the new technology, with a view to producing a camera with much higher resolution than that offered by the floppy disk ones – the new type of electronic camera will be capable of superb picture resolution and easier image processing, the partners are claiming, and will initially pitch it at newspapers, which require rapid recording and transmission of high-quality photographs, causing the market for electronic cameras to come into its own.
