Fujitsu Espana SA is to lead a project in collaboration with the Spanish national chip manufacturing industry and Malaga and Seville Universities, to design a new interface integrated circuit to be incorporated into all the medium-sized computers the company launches onto the market from next year. The project will involve use of computer-aided engineering design tools from across Europe, and the part will integrate 150,000 transistors in a 200 square millimetre chip. The part is intended to be used as the information exchange centre within the central processing complex, being designed to handle complex data transmission and reception from the various elements of the computer. The part is being designed to handle data transfer rates of up to 320M-bits-per-second.
