DEC UK Ltd has added a new member to its 90-strong Complementary Software House network in Britain. Precision Visuals International Ltd is a graphics software supplier from Boulder, Colorado which has been operating in the UK since 1983. After a shaky start here the $20m-a-year company was able to get under DEC’s wing on the strength of its relationship with the US parent. Precision Visuals’ software tools will now be available as third party products to DEC’s customers, while DEC looks for its customer base to widen as a result of Precision’s developments in the graphics field. Precision Visuals has been marketing the All-in-1/PicSure presentation graphics tool for four years, and has just introduced an interactive drawing package for VAX computers, imaginatively called Draw. This package can be used for creating logic diagrams, training aids, as well as floorplans and word charts. Draw is intended for making plans, facts and figures more presentable, and while it could be used for engineering designs, these would be of little use to a builder or engineer who would probably require a more advanced package with a database and additional hardware. The company foresees users gradually moving away from timesharing machines, and Draw is designed with this in mind, although it can be used on time-sharing systems without any problem. Draw runs under VAX/VMS and supports VT-240, VT-340 or Tektronix display list graphics terminals. It costs UKP2,500 to users new to Precision.
