Codice Software has released Plastic SCM 2.8, a new version of its software change and configuration management system, designed for development environments supporting agile, parallel and/or distributed software development.

According to Codice Software, the new version tracks and maps the development history for every project component, giving developers click-through access to critical details. It provides new merge and configuration capabilities, secures valuable source code, and includes an interactive 3D graphical version tree, the ‘DNA map’ of the code development.

Plastic SCM interoperates across Windows, Mac OS X and Linux platforms and supports backend databases including MySQL, SQL Server, Oracle, Postgresql and FireBird, the company said.

The company claims that the Plastic SCM delivers the flexibility required to increase coding efficiency. Its branch management supports task-focused branches to enhance developer productivity, code stability and the speed of product completion. Its small footprint allows installation not only on enterprise-class servers, but also on laptops and desktops.

Pablo Santos, CEO of Codice Software, said: In addition to providing superior branch and merge capabilities, Plastic SCM adapts to the development methodologies and geographical layouts of the teams using it, across all of the popular platforms and server back ends. With a small footprint, the product is optimized to run anywhere, on servers or laptops, in vendor and strategic partner sites, from home, from the office or on the road.
