Savvis and Cisco have expanded their relationship focused on the development of private clouds for the enterprise.
Savvis said that it will integrate the Cisco Unified Computing System (UCS) with Savvis Symphony, Savvis’ private clouds platform, previously dubbed Project Spirit, that will power virtual private data centre (VPDC) with multi-tiered security and quality of service capabilities.
CiscoUCS unites computational, network, storage access, and virtualisation into a modular architecture that is managed as a single system. Cisco Unified Service Delivery offering utilises resources within any given data centre and applies them to any service offering as well as interconnects data centre islands to further combine resources, which can reduce capital and operational costs.
Savvis said that it is using the Unified Service Delivery offering for service delivery which combines the UCS architecture with the Cisco Nexus services, ACE and MPLS network.
As part of an expanded go-to-market strategy, the companies are also working together to offer managed IT infrastructure services and enterprise private clouds. The companies have collaborated on the development of a reference architecture that will help enable enterprise customers to take advantage of Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) benefits available in Savvis Symphony.
According to Savvis, it is using Cisco’s Unified Service Delivery architecture for elements of service delivery which also includes the following offerings, selecting the Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series, ACE blade and Firewall Services Module to offer virtualised network infrastructure for its hosted area network architecture; the companies are introducing Savvis’ MPLS network that unifies Savvis’ data centre infrastructure and management systems enhancing Savvis’ ability to offer IT IaaS.
In addition, Savvis announcing the Cisco Nexus 5000 and 7000 Series switches serving as the virtualised network backbone for the VPDCs powered by Savvis Symphony, along with the Nexus 1000V Switch with VN-Link technology enabling virtual machines and network connectivity to be linked.
