Hughes Network Systems, a managed network services provider, has extended its contract with BP, to continue providing its managed network services connecting BP’s retail locations in the US and in the European countries of the UK, Spain, the Netherlands, Austria, Luxembourg, Switzerland, and Germany.

The five-year extension to the current contract calls for the continued support and management of both wireline and wireless broadband technologies at over 16,000 current retail locations, including implementation of new sites as they come on line.

HughesNet managed network services is a managed broadband offering that creates a network for mid-to-large-sized enterprises by utilising the transport technology available at each site. The resulting technology blend ensures timely and reliable delivery of business information to and from any location while optimising network performance and costs, the company claims.

In addition, HughesNet managed network services provides a single point of contact for enterprise-wide network management to reduce administrative costs, the company said.

Mike Cook, senior vice president of Hughes, said: We are delighted that our relationship with BP Corporation continues to evolve. Hughes has been providing cost-effective network service solutions to BP since 1994 and we look forward to continuing to provide a platform for the delivery of future bandwidth-intensive applications yielding increased productivity and an enhanced retail experience for BP’s customers.
