Fujitsu Ltd, in conjunction with Assist Micro Corp, is making the threat to microfilm from optical disk technology more pressing with the development of a microfilm to optical disk conversion system for inputting of documents on microfilm into an optical disk electronic filing system: the system supports Fuji Film Co’s FMIC 6000 microfilm to optical converter: Assist Micro develops and sells on-line image database systems and electronic filing system data input services, and it and Fujitsu will jointly market the system to governments and large corporations; the FMIC 6000 is $5,000, prices for the input application start at $17,850, and sales of 100 systems is the target over the next three years.
