Buffalo Technology, a provider of wired and wireless networking and network and direct attached storage offerings, has released a new suite of software tools designed to boost PC performance and help consumers protect their digital assets.

The new Buffalo Tools comprises of TurboPC, Backup, ECO Manager, RAMDISK and SecureLock. The TurboPC includes TurboCopy that provides system adjustments to increase performance; and can increase file transfer rates by up to 2x over standard external hard drive connections including USB 2.0 and USB 3.0, the company said.

The company said that the Backup software for Windows PCs can be used to back up one or multiple computers with a single Buffalo external hard drive. The ECO Manager tool is designed to conserve energy by regulating the power usage of Buffalo external hard drive at predetermined times; while the RAMDISK allows users to create a RAM disk on Windows PC.

The company claims that the in-built SecureLock software provides control of the data encryption on Buffalo external hard drive, providing password protection and software data encryption. The initial launch of Buffalo Tools will be limited to the MiniStation Cobalt, MiniStation Metro and the DriveStation HD-CXU2 external hard drives, while future MiniStation and DriveStation products will carry it standard.

According to Buffalo Technology, the MiniStation Cobalt, a storage offering, occupies minimal space and offers USB powered mobile storage. The MiniStation Metro, a portable storage offering, comes equipped with shock resistant BumperBody, an integrated USB cable and optional hardware based AES 256-bit encryption. The DriveStation HD-CXU2 with full disk encryption comes with plug-and-play installation, a configuration wizard, eco power management and AES 256-bit encryption.
