Vertica has released a new version of analytic database that includes features such as SQL-99 window functions, workload management and new time-series and sessionisation capabilities.

The company claims that the Vertica 4.0 enables financial and telecom applications to perform analytics in SQL without the need for specialised products or programming. It is unicode capable, enabling global applications with international data sets, collations and locales. In addition, its database designer with UI makes query performance and storage optimisation simple.

Vertica said that the new version comes with web-based administration tools with integrated backup-and-restore and durable snapshots. The optimiser and execution engine provides faster query performance, while the ODBC and JDBC drivers automatically speed up on bulk and trickle loads.

In addition, the trickle loader reduces storage footprint and administration costs, while external procedures enable tighter integration with computing offerings like Hadoop. Its ecosystem with new Informatica Powercenter 8.6 optimised plug-in is supported with existing partners that include, Cloudera, IBM/Cognos, JasperSoft, MicroStrategy, SyncSort, SAP/Business Objects, Streambase, Tableau, Talend and others.

Mike Olson, CEO of Cloudera, said: The release of version 4.0 is an exciting step forward in allowing our customers to make meaningful discoveries using all of their data, complex and structured, regardless of volume. Combined, our platforms are allowing companies to perform critical applications such as financial and risk modeling and real time log analysis faster and more cost effectively than ever before possible.
