Sunnyvale, California-based high-speed dial-up modem maker Telebit Corp is restructuring into four autonomous business units, each sharing corporate finance, administration and sales functions, but maintaining independent marketing and engineering: the four are Telebit Network Systems and Telebit Software Products to extend the company’s core technology into the inter-networking markets and enter the communications-related software markets, respectively, with first products from each due this quarter; Telebit Data Communications, embodying the company’s core modems business, and Telebit International; restructuring is one of those weasel words that is usually a cover for lay-offs and that is the case here – Telebit will be laying off about 10% of its workforce.
