IBM is expected to come out with a new family of four 100 to 20,000 line speech and data PABXs 70% smaller than the current Rolm Corp line on Tuesday: the new Rolm exchanges, to go out under the IBM name, are expected to offer improved support for personal computers, eliminating the need for local area networks; according to the Wall Street Journal, IBM is expected to report about $800m in sales for switching systems for 1987, but because of fierce price competition the company thought to have made very little profit on them since it acquired Rolm Corp three years ago.
