Pinning its hopes on growth within the mainframe market, personal computer-to-mainframe communications firm Hummingbird Communications Ltd has just launched its 16- and 32-bit HostExplorer TN3270E and TN5250 terminal emulation software. The company has phased out the Suite Maestro TCP/IP application suite it launched last August (CI No 2,985), integrated it with the TN3270 and TN5250 terminal emulation software acquired from McGill University and PolarSoft Inc in January (CI No 3,079), and has called the resulting package HostExplorer. With HostExplorer the Ontario, Canada-based company will now be able to provide enterprise customers with TN3270 communications for all Windows- based desktops. While mentioning no names, HummingBird said it has just sold a 1000-user license for HostExplorer to a top three German bank and has several corporates in the UK that are interested. HostExplorer is available now, priced from $300 per license.
