Siemens Nixdorf Informationssysteme AG has released an X.500 directory that it claims will be able to integrate Windows NT, Unix and mainframe databases into a single global service. The DirX 4.0 directory, which is compliant with the 1993 International Telecommunications Union specification, integrates the Microsoft Corp Exchange directory with standard X.500 directories, letting Exchange data be sent to Unix desktops as well as to Windows NT, Windows95 and 3.X. It integrates intranet and Internet directory services via the LDAP protocol. DirX 4.0 includes the DirXmanage graphical administration tool, a DirXview browser tool with a built-in tree structure navigator, a DirXdiscover 32-bit client for X.500 directories, a DirXsynchronize tool to integrate X.500 and non-X.500 directory databases, and a DirXsurf Web access tool to search X.500 databases.
