The American National Standards Institute (ANSI), which is handling Sun Microsystems Inc’s application to become a submitter of so-called Publicly Available Specifications (PAS) to the International Standards Organization, said yesterday that all but a few of the votes were in by yesterday’s deadline. But two of the main ones were among those missing, but ANSI declined to identify which of the 30-odd countries were late. Sun is hoping to get the status of a PAS submitter so it can push Java through ISO. However, the consensus is that the overall vote will be a No, with comments – comments that Sun will have to address before it can try again. More details are expected today.
