Readers with long memories will recall that Northrop Corp bid for Grumman Corp back in 1994 spurred on by a rival bid from Martin Marietta Corp (CI No 2,373). Northrop won, creating Northrop Grumman Corp, and on the rebound Martin Marietta took over Lockheed Corp a few months later in a so-called merger of equals (CI No 2,490).
