Kofax, a provider of intelligent capture and exchange services, has signed a $350,000 contract with Edco Group, a business process outsourcing (BPO) provider of health document management services.

Edco Group announced that it will utilise Kofax software to automate the processing of patient medical records for hospital and health clinic customers.

Edco Group said that as per the company’s estimates the distributed capture system would initially process in excess of 15 million pages of records annually and will increase that number up to 60 million annually within the next several years.

Kofax claims that the system processes medical records without the use of barcodes, thus supporting Electronic Medical Record (EMR) implementations. It also ensures that electronic data is identified and formatted, providing data queries, and compliance with patient health information privacy and security regulations.

Alan Kerr, executive vice president of field operations at Kofax, said: Automating high-volume, paper-intensive medical record processing improves productivity and generates quicker ROIs for both BPO providers and their clients, thus enabling healthcare organisations to focus on enhancing patient care quality and efficiency.
