IBM Corp yesterday suffered the disruption of a bomb scare in an unlikely location – the snowy state of Vermont. Police evacuated the IBM semiconductor plant in Essex Junction to look for a bomb yesterday after an unidentified male telephoned a threat to the local police. We’ve evacuated the plant and nobody’s in there, said Essex Junction police dispatcher Wendy Fuller. But all the surrounding schools and the homes are still occupied. The plant employs as many as 7,000 workers and operates 24 hours a day. The plant fabricates PowerPC and other microprocessors and logic devices and IBM estimates that shutting it will cost the company $1m. Essex Junction police received the phone call early on Tuesday and decided to evacuate the plant around 5pm.
