The North American Free Trade Agreement has won Mexico the singular distinction of becoming the only country apart from Japan to host a plant making Sony Corp’s PlayStation games machine. Sony Computer Entertainment Inc plans to start making PlayStations in Tijuana at a rate of 100,000 a month from mid- year, with output destined for the US market. Sony already makes television sets and other products in Tijuana, but the new plant there will start operations in April, doing video recorders before moving on to PlayStations. Sony Computer had planned to make the 32-bit games console at its San Diego plant but said in October that it would halt US production to achieve greater economies of scale by concentrating manufacturing in Japan
