Graphical components house KL Group has started shipping JClass Chart graph and chart tool for embedding graphs and charts into applications and applets including 2D and 3D chart, 2D and 3D pie, stacked bar and plot. JClass Chart comes with dynamic tables, titles and legends for full color and font control, as well as mixing images and URLs with text. The privately owned Toronto, Canada-based company, claims it is leading the charge with its component technology, extending its reach from its traditional graphical Motif to NT and now Java component space. Rogue Wave, Powersoft and recent Neuron Data-swallowed Microline are its nearest competitors, it says. It has just opened a European office in Amsterdam, Netherlands. KL Group has been shipping its Windows-based Olectra Chart with ActiveX components since last year. KL Group President Greg Kiessling claims 85% of all Unix graphical component sales. It has just bundled its XRT Motif extensions including its 3D, Field, Graph, Table and Gear tools. Prices start at $6000 for a single developers license. Mr Kiessling claims the Motif market is holding its own against Java components at present mainly because Java lacks the robustness, speed and quality of Motif.
