Along with the Java, Perl, SQL and other of its Network Computer Architecture cartridges Oracle Corp has announced it will release with its Webserver 3.0, sometime in this quarter, the database giant now says it plans to include VRML virtual reality modeling language technology as well, currently called Oracle Worlds. It was showing off the Oracle Worlds Network Computing Architecture cartridge recently in a custom application, designed for the mining software company Mincom. Oracle is also working on cartridges that would convert data into complex geometrical forms. Oracle says it has technology that can now represent data it in a variety of VRML geometry types, including elevation grids, polygons and polygon skeletons – or Index LineSets. The company hopes that the superior data visualization capabilities of the language will translate into sales of its WebServer 3.0 and, of course, of its databases. The company says it is inviting third parties to develop cartridges for Oracle Worlds.
