3Com Corp has expanded its shared SuperStack II stackable networking system range and its ONcore desktop-to-backbone chassis switch system. The new SuperStack II Dual Speed Hub is a 12-port model of the existing Fast Ethernet SuperStack II Switch 3000 TX and the SuperStack II Advanced Redundant Power Supply. The new 10/100 Mbps hub is targeted at those migrating from legacy 10Mbps shared Ethernet. It is available with 12 or 24 autosensing ports, which automatically detect the speed of the attached end station and provide a connection to the appropriate 10 Mbps or 100 Mbps segment. It will ship next month and is priced at $2,400 for the 12 port and $4,200 for the 24 port. The company has introduced a new 12 port version of the SuperStack II Switch 3000 TX that delivers switched Fast Ethernet concentration of workgroups and server farms and is available as an 8 port 100Base-TX twisted-pair switch priced at $6,400 or a 5 port 100Base-FX fiber switch with a 100Base-TX Fast Ethernet port for a local server connection priced at $9,000. Adding to its ONcore range 3Com has also announced a new 7-port 100Base-TX Fast Ethernet FastModule for incremental migration to higher-capacity networks. Serving as an intermediate aggregator of workgroups comprised of SuperStack II Switch 1000 or Desktop Switches. The FastModule supports up to 119 100Base-TX connections within a single ONcore hub, at $5,600.
