Discrete Logic Inc, a Canadian film and television software developer, is acquiring Chicago-based D-Vision Systems for $20m. It wants to diversify into new markets, away from the $1m high- end systems that form the backbone of its portfolio. D-Vision is a strategic acquisition, selling Windows-based digital editing systems for about $40,000. Discrete Logic is on the acquisition trail, and this latest move comes soon after the purchase of Los Angeles-based Denim Software. A graphics effects specialist, Denim targets the PC and Apple Mac markets with low-end systems starting at $1,500. The Canadian company saw a good reaction to the announcement, and its shares rose 6% to $21.60 on Friday.
