Philips Electronics NV is getting together with Hewlett-Packard Co to create lighting assembly products using light-emitting diodes. Financial terms were not disclosed, but Philips will have the controlling 51% stake in the new venture, with HP holding the balance. The joint venture will initially focus on the integration of solid-state light emitting diodes into lighting modules for colored-lighting applications. Operating at arm’s length from the parent companies, the new – as yet unnamed – company will sell the lights worldwide on the OEM market, with products expected to be out in the second half next year.
