In response to demand for high-performance networking on multi- tier client-server systems, InterSystems Corp has released the DSM 7.0 version of its OpenM database product line for Digital Equipment Corp’s Open VMS. DSM incorporates Open M, designed to support high performance transaction processing for client-server and Web-based applications. It includes the company’s Distributed Cache Protocol, which distributes the application database across the network, and network-wide physical locations are dynamically managed while system performance is updated and optimized via data location technology. InterSystems says it will be supporting DEC’s Affinity strategy which will see the eventual merging of Windows NT and OpenVMS. DSM 7.0 will be available in the second quarter of 1997, with prices starting at $1,325 for a four user configuration. Intersystems, based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, achieved $40m revenues in 1995 and claims to rank among the top ten database management system providers worldwide. The company says the OpenM product line combines a database management system with an application development environment.
