IBM Corp will continue to increase the amount of computers, parts and components it buys from Taiwanese makers, Dale Lee, IBM’s regional manager of Greater China Procurement Support Group told Dow Jones & Co. The manager declined to give an estimate of the possible purchase amount this year, but said that the growth from last year is likely to be significant. Acer Inc will supply completed computers sets; Philips Electronics NV, which produces monitors in Taiwan, Samsung Electronics Co, and Lite-On Technology Corp will be its core suppliers of monitors. Acer Peripherals Inc will provide some peripherals, including monitors, while Universal Scientific Industrial Co, Elitegroup Computer Systems Co, and GVC Corp will make full motherboards.
