Apparently Compagnie des Machines Bull SA isn’t satisfied with the Windows NT servers it’s getting and reselling from Zenith Data Systems – they’re too lightweight and channel-oriented, it thinks – so it’s negotiating to get something a little more enterprise-oriented from its pal NEC Corp. The new Pentium Pro two-ways, four-ways and eight-ways are currently under development and Bull will pre-bundle the servers with its ISM systems management software and offer other tools from its OES software suite which it is porting to NT. OES includes performance, configuration, backup, management and administration applications; job scheduling and reporting; security; ISM/AccessMaster; high-availability and support for Oracle, Informix and Tuxedo. It will supply other middleware to integrate the NT systems with its Unix and GCOS mainframe gear middleware, pieces of which it may buy in. It expects to leverage its Unix VARs to peddle the stuff, probably beginning mid-year.
