Less than a week after it announced disappointing figures, virtual reality software pioneer Superscape VR Plc, Hook, UK is taking a merciless axe to its workforce, slashing the total to 61 from 101 – a gutwrenching 40% reduction – as part of a move to reduce operating costs. The board of directors is unanimous in believing that this strategy is the right one to guarantee the long term success of the company, said chief executive John Chiplin. The cuts are with immediate effect and 24 people are to go in the UK, 16 go from the Palo Alto operation. The company was hiring furiously as recently as last August (CI No 2,888).
