Juniper Systems has launched TK6000 handheld computer, which it claims to combine ruggedness, ease of use, connectivity and expandability for data acquisition needs in extreme environments.

The company claims that the new handheld computer is waterproof, dustproof and operates in extreme temperatures. It features an ergonomic, lightweight magnesium case and large colour coded keys. When equipped with two batteries, it operates for up to 32hrs. The TK6000 runs on Windows Mobile 6.1, which runs mobile applications and custom applications created using standard development tools.

Powered by the Marvel PXA270, the TK6000 runs at 624MHz with 128MB RAM and 1GB of internal data storage that is expandable with a user accessible microSD/SDHC slot.

According to Juniper, the new handheld computer equips Wi-Fi 802.11b/g and bluetooth wireless technology. It comes with two RS-232 9 pin serial ports, a full size USB host and mini USB client that enable direct connection to sensors, computers and data storage devices.

In addition, the TK6000 expansion pack adds functionality and can be customised to house special signal conditioning circuitry, communications circuitry and sensor interfaces to meet specific market needs. It also equips an optional 2.5G GSM cellular data modem expansion pack, which is expected to allow remote connection to and from the field, the company said.
