Electronic payment specialist VeriFone Inc and electronics giant Motorola Inc’s Information Products and Services Group have announced a global marketing agreement to promote wireless secure electronic transactions over public wireless data networks reports Multimedia Futures, a sister publication. The agreement is expected to promote the use of wireless payment systems initially in countries where Motorola’s DataTAC networks already operate. The companies said they will look at integrating Motorola’s Series 500 wireless modems into VeriFone’s electronic point of sale equipment, which will enable businesses to conduct credit/debit card transactions with banks and credit companies over wireless networks. The modems transfer at 19,200 Kbps on Motorola DataTAC secure wireless networks which currently operate in 17 countries. The Motorola series 500 costs around $375, but is primarily designed to be an OEM product.
