FileNet has released 32-bit rewrites of its Visual WorkFlo and WorkForce Desktop imaging and workgroup document management software. The $500 Visual WorkFlo 2.0, for Windows NT or Unix servers and NT/95/3.x and OS/2 clients, comes with an expanded set of programming interfaces and the ability to work across multiple application servers attached to a central workflow server. WorkForce Desktop 5.0, which is application and file-compatible with FileNet’s old 16-bit version, is basically a polished-up version that takes advantage of 32-bit capabilities under NT/95. Included are new 32-bit versions of WorkFlo Controls, a set of Object Linking and Emedding controls to use WorkFlo in Visual Basic applications, a new version of Image Display for Windows, WorkFlo Script and the WorkFlo Power and Application libraries. DeskTop 5.0 is a free upgrade for FileNet users under maintenance, and starts at $500 per user depending on the number of components bought.
