Year 2000 specialist ViaSoft Corp, which now owns the R&O Software’s repository, says it’s got 500 customers for the Rochade technology, more than Platinum Technology Inc claims for its repository. ViaSoft and other repository companies are obviously looking with some trepidation at Platinum’s alignment with Microsoft Corp on Repository development (see today’s Top Stories) on the one hand it’s their lunch that Platinum and Microsoft want to eat, but on the other they’ll be looking for an uptick in their businesses if repository technologies become more commonplace, interoperable and perhaps even standardized. ViaSoft says it’s gradually opening up the interfaces in Rochade but says that all repository technologies are basically proprietary technology. It’s going to be at today’s review of the Microsoft Repository design. ViaSoft says it plans to capitalize on the success of its Year 2000 fixes by extrapolating much of the work into new products which can address other software problems.
