CRIMINALS TRACKED THROUGH AIRTOUCH CELLULAR NETWORK

By CBR Staff Writer

US criminals could be easier to catch, following new developments in the US mobile phone market. Airtouch Cellular, a division of US West Inc, helped to track down an alleged criminal through his mobile phone. The Snomomish County Sheriffs office, subpoenaed information from Airtouch, which then tracked the suspect as he drove through their cellular network. Airtouch reckons that it will be assisting the police whenever the information is subpoenaed, and can track phone users even when the phone is on standby. The UK police used similar techniques to track down movements of the various players involved in the soccer goal- fixing trial, evidence which was used in court.
