Japan Telecom Co, in partnership with IBM Japan Ltd, will start offering a corporate data communications service with advanced features to guard against unauthorized access, reports the Nihon Keizai Shimbun. The new service combines the telco group’s extensive telecommunications infrastructure with the latest encryption technology developed by IBM Japan. While the service adopts the TCP/IP protocol used on the internet, it will be less vulnerable to intrusion. For the time being, the network will not be linked to the internet. The service will enable company employees working at home to send data to headquarters via ISDN lines and let sales personnel obtain host-computer data through personal smartphone systems.
