Computer Associates International Inc has launched a new version of its systems management product, Unicenter TNG 2.1 which apparently sports a host of new functions. The new release sees the introduction of Netware IPX and TCP/IP network management out-of-the-box which the company says enables easier access to information across heterogeneous platforms. CA says version 2.1 has new performance management agents that are providing detailed monitoring, trend and analysis capabilities. Management tools including Hewlett-Packard Co’s ClusterView and NetServer Assistant, NCR Corp’s LifeKeeper, Compaq Computer Corp’s Insight Manager and Cisco Systems Inc’s network policy facilities have all extended support to offer integration with the new CA offering. The product can be deployed faster as a result of new policy wizards while enhanced installation facilities make the upgrade process of earlier versions automated. This release of the product also sees an update of the Unicenter TNG Framework, launched in July (CI No 3,203), an open cross platform enterprise infrastructure supporting a host of new operating systems including HP/UX, Sun Solaris and SCO Unixware. CA is keen for Unicenter TNG 2.1 to prove a success as the company heads increasingly in the direction of systems management and has predicted annual Unicenter revenues of $1bn this year (CI No 3,254).
