The Desktop Management Task Force Inc, the industry consortium currently working to agree and implement systems management standards for PC systems and products, says it has completed conformance requirements for the Desktop Management Interface 2.0 standard. The DMTF has around 140 members and is led by a board that includes Intel Corp, Compaq Computer Corp, Dell Computer Corp, Hewlett Packard Co and Digital Equipment Corp. Version 2.0 of the DMI was released in 1996 to define a standard means of sending DMI management information across a network to a central site. The task force says it will hold a testing event at the end of the year to certify manufacturers initial DMI 2.0 offerings and that the first DMI 2.0 compliant products should be available shortly afterwards. The DMI conformance document can be downloaded from the DMTF web site at http://www.dmtf.org.
