Computer Associates International Inc says that it will establish its first Asian technology center to fund burgeoning software companies in India. CA plans to commit $100m to the initiative over the next five years to build a center which will create products that extend CA’s Unicenter TNG, Jasmine and OpenIngres product families. The $100m will also be used to fund start-ups that build value-added products to supplement CA’s software platforms. CA sees the investment helping to foster India’s development as a serious player in the global packaged software market. As part of the program, CA will provide seed funding as well as centralized business and support services, common facilities, management development, and provisions for assistance in technology and marketing assessment. The Islandia, New York- based company will also open new offices in Calcutta, Bangalore, and Madras. It already has offices in Bombay and New Delhi. It insists that CA-India will continue to operate as an Indian company and be locally-run.
