Cisco Systems Inc has announced upgrades of its AS5200 access server to the Rockwell Semiconductor Systems Inc, Lucent Technology Corp K56Flex 56Kbps technology. The upgrades will be free for customers who have bought software upgradable modem cards which are in servers shipped after February 1,1997. Cisco is also offering to trade in old modem cards, for an undisclosed reduction in the list price. Other supporters of the K56Flex technology include Bay Networks, Ascend Communications. Cisco is offering similar software upgradability options as 3Com Corp has for its x2 modem products.
