Determined to throw some chaff into the vision of those watching events down at SAP AG’s user conference in Orlando, Florida, this week, manufacturing software rival PeopleSoft Inc is saying for the umpteenth time that the new 7.0 release version of its application software will be available in September (CI No 3,146). It claims that in certain configurations, such as a Pentium client linked to a four-way Pentium Pro server running Windows NT and an Oracle Corp database over a three-tier wide area connection, the average response time to PeopleSoft 7 query requests decreased by more than 50% over the same requests using PeopleSoft 6. Network traffic decreased by over 50%, the number of messages used decreased by over 60% while the number of concurrent users supported per NT server will be 1,600 for HRMS online and 1,000 for Financials online applications. PeopleSoft also says it has tied its Red Pepper application unit’s supply chain software to SAP’s manufacturing suite via a Databridge interface certified for use with R/3, enabling customers to pass information between the two. It hopes the API will enable it to pick up supply chain customers who may be using SAP for the manufacturing back end.
