Hatteras Networks has launched the HN6100, a modular, multi-service platform designed to enable carriers to offer service, over any media from one compact, ultra-dense chassis.

The 40Gbps, two rack unit HN6100 provides support for ethernet business services and mobile backhaul in a pay-as-you-grow platform, which enables a carrier to simplify deployment, integrate management and reduce its number of vendors, Hatteras said.

The company said that the HN6100 supports ethernet over copper customer premise equipment (CPE) via its networks HN400 series, ethernet over Time Division Multiplexing (TDM) and ethernet over NxT1/E1 via the HN500 series and TDM over ethernet CPE via the new HN600 series with PWE3-plus.

The company said that the new platform supports a portfolio of carrier applications such as ethernet business services via copper or fiber, digital subscriber line access multiplexer (DSLAM) backhaul, internet access, private lines, layered voice over internet protocol (VoIP) transport, multi-tenant ethernet and mobile backhaul.

According to the Hatteras, the HN6100 is suitable for deployment in a central office, controlled environmental vault or outside plant remote-terminal, as well as at a cell site or customer location.

Kevin Sheehan, CEO of Hatteras Networks, said: “The HN6100 leverages the award-winning functionality and density of our proven HN4000 platform, delivers them via a fully modular form factor and empowers carriers to easily introduce any legacy or next-generation services over copper and fiber. It enables the transition from TDM to next-generation ethernet service delivery to be taken gradually and profitably.”
