Everyone’s heard of wearing your heart on your sleeve, but at this week’s Java Internet Business Expo there was a small skirmish over which sleeve people should be wearing over their hearts. The sleeves in question were the black nylon holders for identification badges that rest on the chests of Expo attendees. Those issued at the registration desk bore a large Sun Microsystems logo, effectively creating thousands of walking advertisements for the company. That obviously irked Microsoft enough to retaliate by setting up a booth which offered anyone willing to trade in the Sun sleeve for a nearly identical Microsoft one the chance to win various prizes, ranging from t- shirts to handheld computers. When questioned about their dubious activity, the two young women behind the counter were quick to defend themselves by saying We heard Sun’s doing it too! and There are real prizes.
