Netscape Communications Corp is to sell three new editions of its Communicator browsing software via retailers in a bid to get 100 million copies of its internet software into the hands of consumers. An Internet Access edition offers users 30 days free access through an Internet Service Provider (if the user decides to buy a year’s subscription of course) plus CyberCash Wallet and other chat-room plug-ins and costs $60. The Deluxe version comes with 16 plug-ins, antivirus software and PC-to-HTML tools and costs $80. A Publishing Suite includes Fusion, NetObjects site builder, image editor and plug-ins and costs $130. Netscape hopes it will be able to keep Microsoft Corp at bay in the browser stakes. Some 9,000 retailers have apparently already been signed up to sell the products.
