Apple Computer Inc is looking to broaden its strategy in Asia according to a Steve Vamos, the company’s vice president and managing director for the Asia Pacific region. Apple will refocus its investment away from just pure manufacturing into a full business model. It will concentrate on built-to-order products, working more closely with distributors and assemblers. However, Vamos denied the company would adopt Dell Computer Corp-style direct sales. Apple announced redundancies at its Singapore plant in April (CI No 3,139) and 350 people have been laid off in the last 3 months.
