Cisco Systems Inc has expanded its 3600 series of remote access server products aimed at branch offices and small internet service providers, with the integration of digital modems which allow ISDN and analog modem calls to be aggregated onto the same ports. The technology implemented is Modem ISDN Channel Aggregation, which Cisco obtained from its acquisition of Telebit Corp last year (CI No 2,967). Cisco has already added the technology to its AS5300 high remote access platforms. The upgrade is available in the form of new modules for the 3600 servers, which can carry between six and 30 K56flex modems per module. The upgrade modules are priced from $2,200 to $8,600, and are due out this month.
