SAP AG is forming a new subsidiary in the US to take advantage of SAP America Inc’s expertise in the public sector to provide support for the governments, universities and other non-profit making organizations. The new subsidiary, SAP America Public Sector Inc will provide the public sector with planning, administration and information management solutions throughout the US. The company has also announced the new SAP Public Sector package, an enterprise-wide product based on the company’s R/3 business application software. The new R/3 offering will include budget management, financial accounting, materials management, human resources management, controlling links to all managerial accounting processes, treasury management to support cash flow process, year 2000 compliance and internet and intranet compatibility. SAP is currently implementing the system at a number of public sector customer sites across the US. The company believes the new organization will strengthen its presence in the public sector and the new software will help organizations improve workflow and productivity. Coinciding with the public sector news, SAP has revealed plans to release a new R/3 supply chain optimization package which will apparently enable customers to have access to a high performance, cost effective and integrated supply chain optimization product.
