Samplify Systems, a mixed-signal semiconductor company, has released Prism 3.0, a new real-time signal compression algorithm for implementation on FPGA platforms and its intelligent data converters.
Samplify Systems said that the Prism 3.0 was developed to solve transmission issues faced by high-data bandwidth signal processing applications, with enhancements for wireless base station, computed tomography (CT), and medical ultrasound applications.
The Prism 3.0 decompression engine utilises around half the FPGA logic resources than its earlier versions. In addition, the encoding format has been optimised for software decoding, resulting in an enhanced decompression performance on x86-based CPUs or graphics processing units (GPU).
The company has further reduced the latency in Prism 3.0. With a new flow-through pipelined design, latency through compression and decompression has been reduced and is independent of packet size to address the requirements of wireless repeater and 4G wireless base station applications such as LTE (Long-Term Evolution).
The company introduced a new compression mode SignalTrak, in Prism 3.0. SignalTrak is designed for ultrasound, SONAR, and RADAR applications where the bursts contain both strong and weak reflections over short intervals.
Al Wegener, founder and CTO of Samplify, said: Prism 3.0 is the result of two years of engagements with customers in dozens of application areas, and will serve as the digital kernel foundation for Samplify`s future semiconductor products.
