Yet another potential candidate for Robert Allen’s position as AT&T Corp’s chief executive officer has emerged, according to the London Evening Standard. He is Cable & Wireless chief executive Dick Brown, a 27-year veteran of the American telecommunications industry who only moved to Cable & Wireless in July of 1996 (CI No 2,914). Brown, who came to Cable & Wireless from his job as president and chief executive of H&R Block Inc, was vice-chairman of Ameritech Inc before that, having run the Illinois Bell subsidiary until 1993. His experience includes much involvement in corporate and regulatory issues, and he is a communications science graduate from Ohio University. At Cable & Wireless, Brown oversaw the merger of Nynex and Bell Canada. Other candidates include AT&T insider John Zeglis (CI No 3,236), and Michael Armstrong of Hughes Electronics (CI No 3,242).
