Proizvoditelej Komputernykh Sistemi Programmnogo Obespecheniya, a Russian computer producers association, Assotsiatsiya Rossijskikh, or firm – has been founded by companies keen to promote a civilised climate in the Moscow assembly business. Following a seminar hosted by the assembly firm Stins Coman in April 1993, nine Moscow firms combined to form the association to represent the interests of enterprises involved in the import of computer equipment and software. The members now include Steepler, Eximer, Intermicro Business Systems, Stins Coman, ComputerLand Moscow, Technoserv, Kami, Land, ASI and Krasnaya Volna. Membership of the association was defined as correct market behaviour for companies with involvement in some form of computer assembly operation. Officially founded in June, it hopes to pool experience on importing personal computer components, lobby for more sensible import duties, and discuss the area of bundled software. It also hopes to lobby for more favourable western high technology export controls. The association’s council consists of representatives of Stins Coman, Kami and Steepler.
