Dell provides support for Microsoft Windows Server2008 R2, the newest release in the Windows family of enterprise operating systems. The company has released Windows Server 2008 R2, which includes the release of its drivers, systems management capability and supporting documents.

The company reportedly provides driver support for Windows Server 2008 R2 for Dell hardware to ensure simplified management. It also offers a comprehensive suite of its ProConsult, ProSupport and ProManage services for customers. The customers who already have ProSupport contracts can continue with the existing support for Windows Server 2008 R2 and Microsoft Windows 7.

The company said that new enhancements to Windows Server 2008 Hyper-V, including Live Migration, combined with design features in 11th generation of the company’s PowerEdge servers, such as enhanced memory and I/O capacity, help increase virtualisation performance.

Windows Server 2008 R2 will be factory installed on all of its available PowerEdge servers in the third quarter of 2009. The company will offer Standard, Enterprise, Web, Datacentre and Academic editions of Windows Server 2008 R2 on the full family of its PowerEdge servers. The company will also offer Windows Server 2008 Foundation R2, designed for organisations with up to 15 users, on select PowerEdge systems.

Sally Stevens, vice president of platform marketing at Dell, said: “Dell is committed to helping companies make a smooth transition to the new Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 operating system to help save time and money with new features. We are pleased to be the one of the first companies to offer full access, support and drivers to our customers to make this transition.”
