Sunnyvale, California-based Telebit Corp has added the Telebit Asynchronous Communications Server providing dynamic allocation of dial-in-dial-out services and the ability to support the highest number of modems per server with the fastest data speed available in the industry. The server uses dynamic allocation of ports to manage local network modem resources. This ensures that no modems or telephone lines are inaccessible unless they are actually being used. A significant cost saving is claimed to be achieved by reducing the number of these resources required to provide access while supplying a greater number of users increased access for both dial-in and dial-out applications. In addition, it is claimed to support up to three times as many ports per server as the nearest competitor, with the ability to manage up to 32 modems over AT bus servers and up to 48 over Micro Channel servers. This flexibility enables the Server to grow in conjunction with an organisation’s communication needs. Each port can be configured to support data transmission speeds of up to 57,600 bps, the fastest available in the industry. Higher transmission rates reduce application connect time, which enables users to decrease telephone line costs while increasing productivity. The eight-port AT bus version of the Server is currently available for $4,000, while the 16-port Micro Channel model sells for $6,000. Both models include local area network licence agreements for Crosstalk Mark 4 and pcAnywhere IV/LAN. Sonya McGilchrist
