Ottawa, Ontario-based Gandalf Technologies Inc’s Gandalf Canada Ltd has launched the Infotron 2120 multimedia branch hub for entry-level applications support in large networks, or for branch support in smaller branch-and-region networks: it is designed to aggregate voice, video, data, local network and imaging traffic for transmission to a regional node, consolidating traffic over cost-effective, high-bandwidth trunks; it has a modular architecture so users can add capabilities as branch networking needs change; it includes an optional local net bridge-router that will be able to support Token Ring and Ethernetworks in the future, and communicating with the Infotron 2300 regional network concentrator over Frame Relay links; part of the Infotron 2000 family, the 2120 operates in point-to-point mode as a fractional T-1 multiplexer that passes seven low-speed asynchronous/synchronous channels and three high-speed synchronous channels; a speech board with data compression to less than 8Kb, also operates in point-to-point mode; it supports automatic link redundancy and switched 56Kbps back-up in case of network line problems; no price given.
